I just need to scribble one more thing . . .

Well, what do you think of Pamela? and Pamela? Think about the character and the narrative technique. What works (is authentic) about the epistolary style, and what doesn't (is inauthentic)? Does the fact that the author is male and the protagonist female matter in our reading of the novel?

I think that the this author, who is obviously male, makes Pamela out to be helpless, at least in the beginning. But as we read, it shows her to be very smart and learned about how to play. He makes her appear vain in her appearance and yet trys to get sympathy from the reader so that we will feel sorry for "poor Pamela". To better understand what Pamela feels, I think that putting the book in the epistolary style, gives us a better feeling and understanding of her inner most thoughts. Also I don't believe that it matters that the author is male and the protagonist is female when we read and comprehend the book.
